Jim Melo
Attorney Jim Melo is a graduate of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill School of Law. While attending law school, Jim was a member of the Dean's List, was symposium editor for the Journal of Law and Technology, served as President of the Hispanic Latino Law Students Association, and President of the Immigrants' Outreach Project. Before law school, Jim attended Princeton University, where he served as President of the Hispanic Students Association, ran cross country for the Princeton track team, and served as a volunteer Minority Affairs advisor.
Jim's practice at the Farrell Law Group focuses on Immigration Law. Jim currently serves on the Latino Affairs Committee for the North Carolina Bar Association, and is a member of the Wake County Bar Association, the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers, and the American Immigration Lawyers Association. Jim has also practiced Criminal Law for several years, and has represented numerous clients throughout the state of North Carolina in matters ranging from minor traffic violations to major felonies.
Jim has spoken on various 287(g) immigration detention and removal issues to audiences throughout North Carolina, and he has successfully sued the Wake County Sheriff's office for unlawful detention practices. Jim has also taught several CLE classes to North Carolina attorneys on both Immigration, and Criminal matters, as well as a Paralegal CLE on day-to-day practical tips for an effective immigration paralegal. Jim is an active participant in Know Your Rights seminars throughout the North Carolina, helping to educate the public about their Constitutional rights when approached by law enforcment agencies.
